Discovered by the producer Ross Robinson (who had acted as midwife to the genre in the mid-90s), Glassjaw was formed by Daryl Palumbo (b. 10 February 1979, Long Island, New York, USA; vocals), Kris Baldwin (guitar), Todd Weinstock (b. 5 November 1978, Queens, New York City, New York, USA; guitar/vocals), Ariel Telford (bass) and Justin Beck (b. 17 December 1979, Long Island, New York, USA; drums). Long Island residents Palumbo and Beck took their first steps towards music-making in 1995. The singer, who was afflicted with the intestinal disorder Crohn's disease, wrote lyrics that reflected a certain obvious angst and fitted well with the enraged riffs created by Beck (who switched from drums and bass to guitar). A rounded sound developed and the band were soon demoing and playing live. Robinson's interest ensured that industry attention was soon focused on Glassjaw and a contract was signed with Roadrunner Records, with whom Robinson's I Am label was in partnership at the time. The line-up on the band's debut album comprised Palumbo, Beck, Weinstock, Manuel Carrero (bass) and veteran Sam Siegler (drums). Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence, appeared in 2001 amid hopes that it might represent the face of future rock. The band, joined by new drummer Larry Gorman (b. 9 May 1972, Queens, New York City, New York, USA), also went down very well with international audiences on tours with Soulfly and others. A dispute with Roadrunner put the band's future in doubt, before they were bought out by Robinson and signed a new contract with Warner Brothers Records. Their sophomore album, Worship And Tribute, was released in September 2002.
