Originally formed in the fabled Amityville, New York, in 1999, Taking Back Sunday became complete a year later, when bassist Adam Lazzara moved to the vocalist position. Shaun Cooper took over on bass, joining Eddie Reyes (a founding member of The Movielife) and John Nolan on guitar and Mark OConnell on drums. Two months later, they recorded their first demo, a five song CD that was released in February of 2001. The Long Island band says that their influences range from Modest Mouse and Fugazi to Nirvana and The Who, along with more contemporary bands like Saves the Day and Dashboard Confessional. After almost a year of fine-tuning, self-promotion and performing (including a three-week U.S. tour with Alabamas North Star, as well as shows with At The Drive-In and Alkaline Trio), Taking Back Sunday was ready for a full-time label. In December of 2001, they found a home at Victory Records. The band immediately ventured into New Jerseys Big Blue Meanie Recording Studios with producer Sal Villanueva to begin work on their debut album, Tell All Your Friends, which was released in 2002. - Victory Records
